The Hidden Artist

~What’s the role of artistic expression in your life?

~Is there an artist in your soul?

~How often does she get to play?

Last week I posted a review of highlights from 2011, and I said I’d be sharing some of what’s happening for me now and coming up this year.

What I’m musing on as a primary focus this year is Artistic Self-Expression.

Creativity is an energy of pure vital life-force.  Expressing your creativity through art focuses your spiritual energy and brings it into manifestation, giving it form.  You get bigger.  You bring more of yourself into the world.  You give birth to something new, a new piece of yourself.  It’s an essential component to remaining healthy and vibrant throughout your life.  It’s also something many of us struggle to embrace, or simply let go of, in the stress of life and work.  I deeply admire people who make some or various forms of art a central part of their life.  This year I am one.

Writing is one my main forms of artistic expression.  In my December 1st article, I stated that I had decided to write every day and post here at least once a week.  In addition to wanting to share lots of useful and inspiring information with you, this commitment was also aimed at shifting my patterns around artistic activities.  I have tended to set these aside by prioritizing seemingly ‘practical’ activities and tasks.  I am exceptionally creative and inspired in my healing and coaching work, but I have not given myself as much time as I would like to play artistically for my own enjoyment.

     ~Does this pattern sound familiar?

That commitment I made to writing and posting regularly was a strategy to help me change this pattern, and so far it’s been a powerful one.  I’ve met my daily writing goal about 85% of the time, and my weekly posting goal is at 100%!  Having an audience to witness me has made a huge difference, and this initial success is getting me excited about all the other things I can accomplish and share.  I've already shared some of my photogpraphy in my articles and will definitely continue to (see below).  I also write songs and poetry, and may begin to include samples, as well as interviews, artwork, and videos.

I also very much want to share more of my knowledge through self-practice courses and online classes.  What would inspire and enliven you to see on these pages?

I may decide not to keep to a regular posting schedule if I determine that it’s getting in the way of creating what I want to create.  For now I remain committed to posting each Wednesday.  I’d love for you to use this space to share your wisdom on the topics I write about as well.  We all have things to teach and wisdom to share, and we grow more powerful through our connections with each other.  Consider the following questions, reflect on anything you read above, or share links to your own creative work.

~How do you use or express your creativity?

~Do you think it’s important to play creatively or is it enough to be creative in your work?

~What helps you access your creativity?  What gets in the way?

Thanks so much for joining me here.  It means a tremendous amount to me!

Have fun!
David

I so much appreciate your recognizing how it takes concerted effort to show up as our artistic, creative selves – even once we've come to recognize ourselves as artists (which is itself a length process for some).
With regard to courses, I would be so grateful to have access to your understandings of the links between science, energy, movement and self-medicine. I know you've done a lot of work with herbalists and spent a lot of time practicing energetic disciplines – and I would be so grateful to receive more knowledge about how to care for myself when I'm sick in a natural way – and how to use energy science to prevent myself from getting sick in the first place.
And, David, thank you for your commitment to Your Self and to your Artistic Spirit. Your work is inspiring and beautiful to witness!
